World Day of Prayer is a world-wide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together the first Friday of March to observe a common day of prayer each year.

In these particularly tumultuous times, we need prayer:  to affirm our faith, to pray for the world, to pray for our leaders, share the burdens of other people, and use our talents and gifts in the service of others and God's world.

Sunday, March 7 - Lenten Thoughts, a "Talk Back" session at  12:15 p.m. with Rev. John Henry Weinlick in the Banner Room.  

Sunday, March 14 - The Art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs at 12:15 p.m. in the Banner Room with Marian Ivan. 

Sunday, March 21 - Easter Breads from Around the World at 12:15 p.m. in the Banner Room with host Rev. Jean Hutchinson.

Sunday, March 28 - Palm Sunday service followed by a video introduction to Holy Week and lunch at 12:15 p.m. in the Banner Room

LIVING THE QUESTIONS:  A series of video presentations invites you to explore your faith in conversation with such noted theologians on Wednesdays March 3, 10, 17, 24.  TIME:  1:30 - 3 p.m. OR 7 - 9 p.m.   Facilitator, Rev. Jean Hutchinson.  (see Coming Events for details)

Maundy Thursday,  April 1 - A Meal with Meaning - Soup Supper, Holy Week reflections, Communion.

MCDOUGALL UNITED CHURCH CHOIR 

A choir for all ages and abilities. Come and experience:

Rehearsals:  Fridays at 5:30 - 7 p.m. at McDougall Church (enter through south door on Macdonald Drive)

Non-auditioned:  Everyone, regardless of experience is welcome.  Singers with more experience will be given opportunities to perform solos or to sing in ensembles.

Repertoire:  An eclectic range of genre from classical to gospel band, to folk guitar songs.

McDougall Stitchers, fourth Thursday of the month, 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Norwood Room.  Next session March 25.

COMMUNITY SUPPER AND SPEAKER SERIES

These events are held periodically throughout the year on Thursday evenings at 5:45 p.m. for supper and speaker at 7 p.m. The cost is $10.  Speakers are chosen from a wide range of interests and topics of common community interest.

Living the Questions is an invitation to journey into Lent.  This popular video series invites you to come and explore your faith in conversation with such noted theologians as Marcus Borg, John Bell, John Dominic Crossan, John Spong, Matthew Fox and Amy-Jill Levine.

We are offering the program twice on Wednesdays, so choose the time that suits you best.  No advance preparation is necessary.

March 3 - Restoring Relationships

Bondage and Liberation, Exile and Return, Sin and Forgiveness.  The Biblical story demonstrates the human condition and what is necessary to restore our relationships with our neighbours, the Earth and the Holy.

 March 10 - The Prophetic Jesus

Jesus was a troublemaker, a stirrer of the pot.  He offered a clear and determined alternative way to live in the world.

March 17 - Evil, Suffering and a God of Love

"With all the evil in the world, how can you believe in God?"

"Where is God when bad things happen?"

March 24 - The Myth of Redemptive Violence

"Jesus inaugurated a new order based on partnership, equality, compassion and nonviolence," and yet "the most potent religion in Western culture is not Christianity, but a belief in the redemptive power of violence."
